Mumbai: CM Fadnavis Reviews Rs 1.41 Lakh Crore BMC Projects, Calls for AI in Drain Cleaning

Mumbai, 4th March 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today conducted a review of ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), totaling approximately ₹1.41 lakh crore, with an additional ₹25,000 crore worth of upcoming projects. During the meeting, he directed the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for drain cleaning operations to improve efficiency.

The review meeting, held at Vidhan Bhavan, was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, and senior officials. The BMC is currently executing major infrastructure projects, including road concretization, water supply schemes, sewage treatment plants, and health sector developments.

Key Projects Under Review
The review included several crucial projects:
Road Infrastructure: Concreting of 700 km of roads, Versova-Bhayander Coastal Road, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, and various bridge construction projects (Gokhale, Vikhroli, Karnak, Sion, Belasis, Mahalaxmi, Madh-Versova).

River & Sewage Management: Revitalization of Dahisar, Poinsur, Oshiwara, and Mithi rivers, and construction of seven sewage treatment plants at locations like Malad, Bhandup, Ghatkopar, and Versova.

Healthcare Expansion: Redevelopment of Sion, KEM, and Nair hospitals, along with new hospital projects.

Public Infrastructure: Construction of parking facilities and commercial centers at Dahisar Western Expressway and Mankhurd Octroi Naka.

Additionally, ₹25,000 crore worth of new projects, including the Gargai Water Supply Project, Panjrapol Water Purification Project, Mithi River Package 5, and the modernization of Deonar Slaughterhouse, were reviewed.

Fadnavis Calls for Timely Execution
Speaking at the meeting, CM Fadnavis emphasized the importance of completing projects on schedule. “The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road is nearing completion, and a parking lot with a 1,200-vehicle capacity should be developed at Haji Ali. All ongoing projects must be finished within their deadlines, and tendering for new projects should be completed within a month,” he said.

Fadnavis also stressed the urgency of the Gargai Water Supply Project, stating that “rehabilitation and preparatory work must be expedited to ensure Mumbai’s future water security.”

Shinde Advocates for Pothole-Free Roads
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde highlighted BMC’s large-scale road construction efforts. “Currently, 700 km of roads are being converted into cement-concrete roads. Once completed, we will extend the project to 2,000 km, making 80% of Mumbai’s roads pothole-free,” he said. He also instructed authorities to ensure minimal inconvenience to citizens during monsoon roadworks and suggested the establishment of a helipad along the coastal road.

Senior Officials in Attendance
The meeting was attended by BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) Asim Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Milind Mhaiskar, and Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar. Municipal Commissioner Gagrani provided a detailed presentation on the progress of various projects.

With significant infrastructure investments and government directives in place, Mumbai is set to witness a transformation in its civic and transport landscape.
