Mumbai Cyber Fraud: Man Duped Of Rs 89,000 After Searching For Lunch Box Alternative Online

Mumbai, 2nd April 2023: The Grand Road area of Mumbai has been hit by yet another case of cyber fraud as criminals duped a resident of Rs. 89,000 by sending a fraudulent link via SMS.

According to reports, the victim was looking for an alternative to a lunch box on the internet when he found a phone number, which he called. The person on the other side sent a link, asking him to register on the website and pay Rs 5, which would be refunded. After following the instructions, the victim received a message saying that his order had been cancelled. Later, he received another message saying that Rs 89,000 had been deducted from his bank account.

Upon realizing he had been duped, the victim immediately reported the matter to the police, who traced the suspects’ bank account and mobile number. Two suspects, Nageshwar Malo Thakur (29) and Santosh Kumar Bhaldev Mandal (29) were subsequently arrested. They are residents of Dumka village in Jharkhand. The police have charged the accused with cyber fraud under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
