Police Increase Security On Mumbai-Nagpur Highway After Incidents Of Stone Pelting

Mumbai, 3rd April 2023: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to purchase 15 vehicles for the Highway Safety Police to increase police patrolling on the Nagpur-Shirdi highway in the wake of a series of stone-pelting incidents that have taken place on the highway over the past few days.

The incidents of stone pelting have raised concerns about the safety of passengers on the highway. The MSRDC has taken serious notice of the issue and decided to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

The 520 km highway from Nagpur to Shirdi was put into service in December, reducing the travel time between the two cities to just five hours. However, several accidents have taken place on the highway, resulting in casualties. The recent incidents of stone pelting have added to the concerns about passenger safety on the highway. The MSRDC has decided to increase police patrolling on the highway to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of passengers.

Sanjay Yadav, Joint Managing Director of MSRDC, visited the site on Monday and inspected the area. A meeting was held between MSRDC, Traffic Police, and Highway Police to discuss the issue. Several decisions were taken to prevent incidents of stone pelting and accidents on the highway. The Traffic Police and Highway Police are monitoring the speed and discipline of vehicles on the highway. Counseling centers have been set up at every toll booth to counsel drivers and passengers.

MSRDC has decided to purchase 15 four-wheelers for the Highway Safety Police to increase police patrolling on the highway. The process of purchasing these vehicles has already started. Meanwhile, to begin patrolling the highway, some vehicles will be rented on a temporary basis until the purchased vehicles arrive. Yadav said that the decision to increase police patrolling on the highway is expected to prevent incidents of stone pelting and ensure the safety of passengers.
