Mumbai, 5th August 2024: In a disturbing incident in Dahisar, Mumbai, the chairperson of a residential society is alleged to have bitten off a flat owner’s thumb during a confrontation. The 67-year-old chairperson, Nityanand Padiyal, has been detained by the police, who are currently investigating the case.
The victim, 47-year-old Aditya Desai, was rushed to DR Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital after collapsing from severe bleeding. After receiving medical treatment, he filed a complaint at the MHB Police Station, leading to the registration of an FIR.
The altercation occurred at the Amarnath Apartment in Mhatre Wadi, Dahisar West, on the morning of August 4. According to police reports, Padiyal and Desai were involved in a dispute during a society meeting. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which Padiyal reportedly bit off Desai’s left thumb.
Police are currently gathering statements from other society members to piece together the sequence of events. Desai claims that Padiyal spoke to him harshly, prompting him to respond. During the struggle, Desai’s thumb allegedly ended up in Padiyal’s mouth, leading to the injury.
Desai also mentioned that Padiyal, who has been the society chairperson for 20 years, was rude and physically aggressive during the meeting. Desai stated that Padiyal pushed him, broke his glasses, and sat on his chest. In an attempt to protect himself, Desai’s thumb ended up in Padiyal’s mouth, where it was bitten off.
Additionally, Desai has reported issues with Padiyal regarding access to his rented flat. Desai’s tenant, who arrives home late, has been facing difficulties as Padiyal instructed the guards to close the gates, causing inconvenience.
Deputy Police Commissioner Anand Bhoite confirmed that Desai had previously raised concerns with Padiyal about these issues. On Sunday, Bhoite attempted to mediate but the situation escalated into a physical altercation. An FIR has been filed against Padiyal under Section 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
