Mumbai: Gas Leak-Induced Fire in Chembur Injures Nine, Prompt Fire Brigade Response

Mumbai, 2nd February 2024: A fire, ignited by a gas leak in Chembur’s Siddharth Colony, resulted in injuries to nine individuals, as confirmed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday. The incident unfolded in a chawl at Siddharth Colony in Chembur East around 11.45 pm on Thursday.

Upon notification, the fire brigade swiftly mobilized one fire engine, a jetty, and ambulances to the site. The fire was successfully extinguished within 10-15 minutes.

Nine individuals, including a 17-year-old boy, sustained burns during the accident. The injured parties were promptly admitted to four different hospitals in the city. The identified individuals include Sangita Gaikwad (55), Jitendra Kamble (46), Yashoda Gaikwad (56), Narmada Gaikwad (60), Ramesh Gaikwad (56), Shreyash Sonkhambe (17), Sherya Gaikwad (40), Vrishabh Gaikwad (23), and Sandip Jadhav (42).

Details on the nature of the gas leak and the circumstances leading to the fire are awaited pending further investigation.

In a separate incident in Palghar district, Maharashtra, a significant fire erupted in a parking area during the early hours of Thursday. The blaze, occurring at 1.10 am in Dhani Baugh on Shyam Baugh road in the Nalasopara area, resulted in the destruction of six trucks loaded with goods. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Fire officials managed to extinguish the flames by 6 am, deploying three fire engines from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation.

Additionally, on Wednesday night, a fire broke out on the 12th floor of a residential building in suburban Andheri. A 67-year-old woman residing in the affected flat was admitted to the hospital due to suffocation, and her condition is reported to be stable.
