Mumbai Gets Some Relief from Heatwave, But Temperatures Stay High

Mumbai, 3rd March 2025: Following a brief spell of heatwave-like conditions, Mumbai has experienced some relief, but temperatures remain above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On Sunday, IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1°C, exceeding the normal by 2.1°C, while the Colaba observatory reported 32.8°C, which was 1.6°C higher than usual. Nighttime temperatures also remained elevated, with Colaba registering 24.8°C (2.8°C above normal) and Santacruz recording 23°C (3.1°C above normal). Humidity levels stood at 67% in Colaba and 57% in Santacruz, intensifying the discomfort.

Last week, Mumbai saw a significant rise in daytime temperatures, with readings surging 5-6°C above normal, reaching nearly 38°C. The IMD had even issued a heatwave alert for February 25-26 as temperatures soared to uncomfortable levels. Although there has been a slight decline recently, conditions remain warmer than expected for this time of year.

A meteorological department official stated, “While the heatwave has passed, Mumbai continues to experience warm and dry conditions, which are typical for this season.”
