Mumbai: Heavy Rains Return On Friday, Orange Alert Issued by Meteorological Department

Mumbai, 20th July 2023: Mumbai experienced a sudden resurgence of heavy rains today, catching many by surprise after a brief period of respite. The city remained under cloud cover throughout the day, and as evening approached, the downpour intensified, leaving commuters and residents shocked. The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert, warning of rising rains and potential disruptions.

Over the last four days, Mumbai has been grappling with incessant rainfall, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, disrupting road traffic, and causing halts in train services due to water accumulation on railway tracks. The weather department had already forecasted heavy rains for Thursday, prompting authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges. However, the rainfall persisted, with only a brief break in the afternoon.

With the prediction of continued heavy rain on Friday, people are exercising caution and making necessary arrangements to avoid being stranded. The rainfall report until 6 PM indicated substantial precipitation in different parts of the city, with the eastern and western suburbs recording 23.87 mm and 21.83 mm of rain, respectively.

The heavy rains have also led to several incidents of trees falling in various areas. A total of 25 trees and branches collapsed at 16 locations, causing disruptions and damage. Additionally, two houses were affected by the heavy rains.

Notably, in Ghatkopar, a tree from Ramji Nagar fell on the roof of the Jungleshwar Temple on Khairani Road, leading to authorities shifting approximately 100 people from 25 to 30 houses in Aju side to Barve Nagar Palika School No. 1 in Bhatwadi for their safety.

As the downpour continues, citizens are advised to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather advisories from the Meteorological Department. It is essential to take necessary precautions and be prepared for any potential emergencies caused by the heavy rainfall.
