Mumbai Local Services to Be Hit by Mega Block on August 2; Several Trains Cancelled Across Central, Harbour Routes
Mumbai, 1st August 2026: Commuters travelling on Mumbai’s suburban railway network on Sunday (August 2) are advised to plan their journeys in advance as Central Railway has announced a mega block on the Main and Harbour lines to carry out essential engineering and maintenance works. The block will affect train operations on both routes, with several local services cancelled and others running on diverted tracks.
According to Central Railway, the maintenance work includes track repairs, signalling system maintenance and other engineering activities aimed at improving the safety and reliability of suburban rail services.
Main Line
A mega block will be undertaken on the up and down fast lines between Matunga and Mulund from 11:05 am to 3:45 pm.
During the block period, down fast local trains departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will be diverted to the slow line at Matunga. These trains will halt at all scheduled stations between Matunga and Mulund before rejoining the fast corridor at Mulund. Railway officials said passengers should expect delays of around 15 minutes.
Similarly, up fast trains from Thane will be diverted to the slow line at Mulund, halt at all designated stations up to Matunga, and then return to the fast line.
Harbour Line
A mega block will also be carried out on the up and down Harbour lines between CSMT and Chunabhatti/Bandra from 11:10 am to 4:40 pm.
As a result, several Harbour line services between CSMT and Vashi, Belapur and Panvel will remain cancelled during the block period. Up services from Panvel, Belapur and Vashi towards CSMT, as well as trains operating from Goregaon and Bandra towards CSMT, will also be cancelled.
To reduce inconvenience to commuters, Central Railway will operate special local services between Panvel and Kurla (Platform No. 8) at intervals of approximately 20 minutes during the block.
Western Railway
Meanwhile, Western Railway will undertake a Jumbo Block on the up and down fast lines between Mumbai Central and Mahim from 12:25 am to 4:25 am during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
During this period, all fast local trains between Churchgate and Santacruz will run on the slow lines. However, there will be no daytime mega block on the Western Railway suburban section on Sunday, and train services are expected to operate as per the regular timetable.
Railway authorities have appealed to commuters to check train schedules before travelling and allow additional travel time due to diversions, cancellations and expected delays during the maintenance work.
