Mumbai: Malad woman found dead after being drowned in water bucket by thief

Mumbai, 23rd April 2023: A 69-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Malad West on Thursday after an unknown thief entered her house and submerged her face in a bucket full of water.

The victim, Marie Celine Wilfred D’Costa, was a resident of room number 8 on the first floor of New Life CHS. Her grandson, Neel Gopal Raibo, called her several times but got no response, prompting him to call the neighbours to check on her.

The neighbours entered the house with a key they had and found Marie’s face submerged in a bucket full of water in the toilet. They immediately rushed her to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, but doctors declared her dead. Police believe that a suspicious person entered the house around 5:55 pm wearing a mask and left around 6:50 pm.

After checking the CCTV footage, police suspect that the maid, Shabnam, and her son, Shehzada, who were working at the victim’s house, had conspired with the thief to commit the crime. The police have registered a case of murder against the maid, her son, and the thief.

The victim’s grandson, Neel, had been living with Marie for several years, but was currently employed in Bangalore. Due to her disability, Shabnam was hired to take care of Marie, and her son, Shehzada, had come to drop her off on the day of the incident. After finishing work, they left the door open, and the thief entered the house in front of them.

The police are investigating the matter further and have urged the public to come forward with any information that may help solve the case.

The victim had three daughters, two of whom live in Kuwait, while one daughter lives in the Mira Road area.
