Mumbai Metro 1 Revolutionizes Ticketing with TapTap Wristbands

Mumbai, 11th April 2024: In a move to enhance the commuting experience for the approximately 4 lakh passengers using the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro 1, Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) has rolled out a new ticketing option. Amid the election season, MMOPL unveiled TapTap – a QR-coded wristband that can be scanned on the automated fare collection (AFC) gate.

The wristbands, priced at an inaugural offer of ₹200, are available at all customer care windows along the VAG corridor. Commuters can purchase and recharge these wristbands, similar to the existing store value pass. According to officials, TapTap offers a hands-free experience, allowing commuters to wear their tickets and seamlessly tap through the AFC gates of Line 1.

TapTap operates without batteries, is waterproof, and eliminates the hassle of carrying exact change at the ticket counter. Users can conveniently load funds as needed and enjoy a washable, non-allergenic, and non-irritating silicone-based material wristband.

Furthermore, a recent assessment led by former chief secretary Johny Joseph valued Reliance Infrastructure Ltd’s (R-Infra) 74% stake in the Metro-1 corridor at ₹4,000 crore. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is reportedly considering taking over the management of this metro line in the future.
