Mumbai Metro Boosts Services Amid Western Railway Disruptions at Borivali Station

Mumbai, 3rd June 2024: In response to disruptions in local train operations at Mumbai’s Borivali station, authorities have increased the frequency of metro rail services to accommodate the surge in commuters. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited spokesperson announced the deployment of four additional train sets on Metro lines 2A and 7, catering to the increased passenger demand resulting from delayed Western Railway services.

Monday witnessed a notable rise in foot traffic on Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to Andheri West) and Line 7 (Dahisar to Andheri East), particularly at Borivali, Kurar, and Rashtriya Udyan stations. The supplementary services will remain operational until normalcy is restored, with 24 train sets deployed compared to the usual 21 during peak hours.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), directed the augmentation of services to mitigate commuter inconvenience.

The disruption in Western Railway services stemmed from a technical glitch at Borivali station, where an accidental cable cut impeded operations. While some track changing points remained non-operational, trains continued to operate from platforms 3 to 8. Although partial resolution was achieved with the restoration of four affected track changing points, efforts to fully rectify the issue persisted throughout the day. Borivali, a crucial hub in north Mumbai, serves as a vital artery for daily commuters and office-goers relying on its local train network.
