Mumbai: Navy Helicopter Has Accident Near Coast, Three People Rescued
Mumbai, 8th March 2023: On Wednesday, an accident involving an Indian Navy ALH occurred near the coast when it was on a regular mission off Mumbai. According to the Navy, quick search and rescue made sure that a crew of three could be safely recovered by a patrol boat.
The statement said that a probe into the incident had been ordered. All five occupants were killed when an Army Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) carrying weapons crashed in Arunachal Pradesh in October of the previous year.
All of the country’s operational ALH—just over 300—were grounded for safety inspections following the fatal crash as a precaution. An official source had stated last year, “We are putting all of them under a one-time check, and they will be flying following that.” Another report claimed that it was solely a preventative measure taken in case of a serious accident.
Earlier, an Indian Army Cheetah helicopter crash in Kashmir’s Gurez region claimed the life of one of its pilots. The Army claimed in a statement that the helicopter “crashed in the Baraub region of Gurez in Bandipora district this afternoon, while on a routine mission to rescue an injured soldier from a forward station”.
A trainer plane crashed earlier this year, killing the pilot, in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa area, 400 kilometres from the state capital Bhopal.
According to a representative, the accident on 5th January at about 11.30 p.m. injured the trainee pilot who was travelling on board. According to J P Patel, the in-charge of the Chorhatta police station, the plane, which was on a training sortie, crashed three kilometres from the airstrip after colliding with a tree and a temple’s dome.
Captain Vimal Kumar (50), a resident of Patna, was killed in the incident, while trainee pilot Sonu Yadav (23), a resident of Jaipur, suffered injuries and was admitted to the government-run Sanjay Gandhi Medical College Hospital, said Rewa collector Manoj Pushp.
