Mumbai police arrest five people in connection with a Rs 2 crore jewelry theft

Gamdevi, 27th April 2023: The Gamdevi police have arrested five people in connection with the theft of jewelry worth around two crore rupees from the house of a businessman living in Carmichael Road area of Gamdevi.

The jewelry included expensive watches, diamond necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, as well as gold chains and earrings, and a black and white diamond necklace. The police received a complaint from the businessman that the jewelry was missing from his locker, and a case of theft was registered under section 381 of the IPC against the maid Mylen Suren.

Police investigations revealed that the accused had given the stolen jewelry to gold brokers, and subsequently arrested Hasmukh Bagda from Taddeo, Nasruddin Sheikh, and Sangita Kamble from Paral. A total of eight expensive pieces of jewelry, each priced between Rs 20 lakhs to Rs 60 lakhs, were stolen from the lockers, with Mylen and Abdul Munaf involved in the theft. The police arrested Abdul from Jogeshwari railway station when he was about to flee out of the state.

The police have seized jewelry worth Rs 1 crore 71 lakhs from the arrested individuals. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are looking for the remaining stolen jewelry.
