Mumbai: Worries for MHADA Increase as Only 326 Applications Received for 2048 Houses in Virar-Bolinj

Mumbai, 24th April 2023: The Konkan division of MHADA’s biggest housing project in Virar-Bolinj has received a scant response for its draw of 4654 houses, including 14 plots.

Out of the 2048 houses on offer, only 326 applications with the deposit amount have been submitted by 9 pm on Monday, with only four days left for the deadline. This low number raises concerns that a large number of houses may remain vacant even after the draw.

The Konkan division is examining other options for selling these houses, as even after multiple draws, the 2048 houses in the project did not receive a response due to the drinking water problem in the area. These houses were then included in the ‘First Come First Preference’ scheme, but have still not been sold. Although the income proof is not mandatory in this scheme, it appears to have received very little response.

As of Monday evening, only 326 applications with the deposit amount have been submitted for the 2048 houses, out of 1404 aspirants who have applied. The deadline for filling out the application is Wednesday, with Friday being the deadline for submitting the application along with the deposit amount. The board’s concern about the response to these houses has prompted them to start looking for other options to sell them.
