Navi Mumbai International Airport Welcomes First Scheduled International Flight from Abu Dhabi
Navi Mumbai, 15th July 2026: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) marked a historic milestone on Wednesday by welcoming its first scheduled international flight, as Air India Express flight IX208 arrived from Abu Dhabi, officially commencing the airport’s international operations. The aircraft was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute, symbolising the airport’s entry into the global aviation network.
The launch of international services marks a significant chapter in India’s civil aviation sector. Developed as Mumbai’s second international airport, NMIA is expected to enhance global connectivity, support international trade and tourism, facilitate cargo movement, attract investment, and create employment opportunities across Maharashtra.
The inaugural flight is part of Air India Express’ new service connecting Navi Mumbai with Abu Dhabi. The airline will operate the route three times a week, making it the airport’s first scheduled international destination. The flight also carried the airport’s first international shipment of perishable export cargo, highlighting NMIA’s growing role in global logistics.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol described the occasion as a landmark moment for both Maharashtra and the country.
“The arrival of the first scheduled international flight at Navi Mumbai International Airport is a historic achievement in India’s civil aviation journey. It is not merely the commencement of an international service, but the beginning of a new era of global connectivity. The airport will emerge as a strong gateway for trade, tourism, investment and employment opportunities. This milestone reflects Maharashtra’s development, India’s growing global stature, and our commitment to building world-class infrastructure,” Mohol said.
Since commencing domestic operations in December 2025, Navi Mumbai International Airport has expanded its network rapidly and is now entering the international aviation market. The airport is expected to complement Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by increasing regional capacity and improving passenger connectivity.
Developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Limited and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the airport is being constructed in multiple phases and is expected to become one of India’s key aviation hubs in the coming years.
