Navi Mumbai, 2nd April 2023: The Property Tax Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has collected a record-breaking income of Rs. 633.17 crores in the financial year 2022-23. This marks a substantial increase of Rs. 107.17 crore from the previous year. This impressive revenue collection was achieved despite several challenges.

Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar praised the efforts of the entire property tax department and expressed his gratitude towards the citizens of Navi Mumbai for their positive response to the appeal made by the Municipal Corporation. Narvekar also recognized the hardships faced by citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic and extended relief measures such as the Abhay Yojana, which offered a 75% discount on penalty amounts from February 15 to March 15, and a 50% discount from March 16 to March 31. Citizens responded well to the Abhay Yojana, resulting in more than 130 crores being deposited in the municipal corporation’s coffers.

The Property Tax Department of the NMMC implemented several planned steps, such as bringing non-assessable MIDC and residential properties under the tax net, to collect more revenue. Special attention was also given to property tax defaulters with large arrears. This, along with the department’s efforts to keep all municipal corporation offices open for payment of property tax, even on public holidays, contributed to the substantial increase in revenue.

On March 30, 15 crores of property tax were paid in one day, demonstrating the positive response of citizens to the Municipal Corporation’s efforts. On the last day of the financial year, 31st March, an amount of 18.92 crores was collected as property tax. Commissioner Narvekar acknowledged that the overall development of Navi Mumbai is based on the citizens’ positive contributions and their awareness that the amount collected under property tax is used for providing quality services.

The record collection of property tax this year will be used for the city’s overall development, and the Municipal Corporation will strive to provide better facilities to the citizens. Due to the proper planning and good response from citizens, the Property Tax Department of the municipality was able to collect a significant amount of property tax, marking a record collection in the municipal corporation so far.
