PMC Employee Vanishes with Cash: AAP Alleges Scandal at Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 6th March 2024: An incident has come to light at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) as a significant amount of money was discovered in the desk drawer of an employee. The employee, however, denies any ownership of the cash. The situation took a dramatic turn when the employee vanished with a bundle of currency notes after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers raised the issue with senior officials, capturing the entire episode on video.

According to details shared by the X handle, “Bundles of notes surfaced from the drawer of the deputy engineer’s desk at the Pune Municipal Corporation. Officials claim the money was given by a contractor for safekeeping. AAP alleges this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Hrishikesh Kanavte, an AAP Party worker, revealed, “Yesterday, we approached PMC Engineer Amar Shinde regarding a complaint in Baner. Upon reaching the PMC office, we learned Shinde was in a meeting. While waiting, a person emerged from Shinde’s cabin, handing over a bundle to an official. Upon inquiry, we discovered it contained cash amounting to Rs 2-3 lakhs. The official stated the contractor had instructed him to safeguard the money. Amar Shinde denied any knowledge, promising an investigation. Chief Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar assured swift action upon our complaint. We urge PMC to scrutinize the video, question the official, and take decisive measures if guilt is established.”

Netizens have expressed their concerns and opinions on the matter.

An X user suggested, “Sting operations should be a daily affair, leading to the dismissal of guilty employees. This will expedite work and deter corruption. Employees earning around Rs 50-60k somehow own multiple properties – a questionable scenario.”

Another X user tweeted, “Government jobs have become money mines. From constables to bosses, bribery is rampant, with faith in delayed justice. Tightening laws is imperative to break this cycle.”

One user commented, “Check the properties of officers to trace the flow of corruption. Seeking justice in government offices often yields random responses due to systemic loopholes.”

Another user highlighted the improbability of government employees accumulating substantial wealth, stating, “Employees with modest homes upon joining mysteriously acquire bungalows, flats, cars, and properties by retirement. A reality check is overdue.”
