Pre-New Year’s Eve Rave Party Raided by Thane Police; 100 Detained

Thane, 31st December 2023: In a pre-New Year’s Eve operation, Thane Police apprehended around 100 youngsters at a private location hosting a rave party with drugs and liquor. Acting on a tip-off, a substantial number of Thane Police personnel conducted an early morning raid near the Kasarvadavali Police Station on Ghodbunder Road.

The detainees, primarily from Thane and neighbouring areas, underwent medical tests and other necessary protocols. The police seized significant amounts of liquor, various types of drugs, narcotics, and other illicit substances at the private venue.

The event, marked by loud music, singing, and dancing, occurred on private property. Although it is unclear if any illegal entry fees were imposed, the police acted swiftly upon receiving information.

Local social activist Dr Binu Varghese expressed concern about the proximity of the party venue to police establishments, raising questions about how the authorities were unaware of the event, especially in the hometown of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Preliminary information suggests that the party was organised by a resident from Thane, who invited attendees through social media, complete with location maps. High-ranking officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivraj Patil and teams from the local police and Crime Branch Units 2 and 5, were present during the morning operation.

Following the intervention, law enforcement agencies in the district and cities like Mumbai and Pune have heightened vigilance and security measures in preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
