Pune: Golden Jubilee Conference of BJMC and SGH Concludes with Focus on Infections

Pune, 15th March 2024: The Golden Jubilee Annual Conference of the Research Society of Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College (BJMC) and Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) concluded on March 14th and 15th, 2024, in Pune. With the theme “Infections: Prevention, Treatment, and New Research,” the conference drew nearly 1400 doctors from Maharashtra and beyond.

Dr. Sheela Godbole, Director of the National Institute of Virology and National AIDS Research Institute, inaugurated the conference on March 14th. Group Captain Dr. Mohan Dixit graced the occasion as a special guest, while the presence of Dr. Gururaj Mutalik, the esteemed founding member of the Research Society and former head of the Department of Pharmacology at BJMC, added to the event’s significance.

Despite his remarkable age of 95 years, Dr. Mutalik, known for his vibrant spirit, delivered the Honorable B.B. Dixit Oration during the conference. His eloquent discourse emphasized the importance of a disciplined diet and exercise in human genetics. The occasion also witnessed the gathering of eminent senior teachers and professors from BJMC and SGH, including Dr Rustam Wadia, Dr Mohan Agashe, Dr Yagnik, Dr Subhash Kale, and others, seeking guidance and inspiration.

Distinguished doctors from various hospitals delivered lectures and seminars on germs and related topics during the two-day conference. Over 200 research reports, interesting cases, and posters from medical colleges across Maharashtra were presented, with awards recognizing outstanding contributions. The conference facilitated invaluable guidance from senior doctors for both teachers and students across disciplines.

Under the leadership of Dr Vinayak Kale, Dean of BJMC, and support from Dr Shekhar Pradhan, Dr Arti Kinikar, Dr Ajay Tavere, Dr Rohidas Borse, Dr Haridas Prasad, and others, the conference was meticulously organized. Dr Sasikala Sangle, Dr Sharda Rane, Dr Padsen Ranbagle, and other officers of the Research Society, alongside various committees led by Dr Sonali Sali, Dr Harshal Bhitkar, and others, played instrumental roles in ensuring the conference’s success.
