Pune Income Tax Office Staff Joins Nationwide Protest Against Recruitment Regulations

Pune, 15th March 2024: Income Tax Department employees nationwide have initiated a protest to address various grievances, drawing participation from the Pune Chief Commissioner of Income Tax office staff. Beginning this afternoon (15), the employees have started to boycott work.

One contentious issue centres around the applicability of new recruitment regulations for the Office Superintendent position to existing officers and staff. Currently, the promotion cycle for required employees stands at 3 years. However, under the proposed rules, this duration would extend to 10 years. Employee unions vehemently oppose this change, prompting widespread agitation within the Income Tax Department nationwide. Should their demands remain unmet, the unions have cautioned against escalating their protest.

The protest garnered substantial support from employees of the Pune Chief Commissioner of Income Tax office and its affiliated branches. Demonstrations and protests unfolded over three days, with employees gathering outside the office premises. Sharad Murhe, the general secretary of the Income Tax Employees’ Federation (Pune Division), announced the decision to boycott work effective from this afternoon.
