Pune: PMC Seals Hotel Owned by Former MP Nilesh Rane Over Rs 3.77 Crore Property Tax Dues

Pune, 29th February 2024: It has been revealed that former MP Nilesh Rane, the son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, owes property tax of Rs 3 crore 77 lakh 53 thousand. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken action by sealing off the hotel located in the multi-purpose business complex ‘R Deccan,’ owned by Nilesh Rane. This move by PMC has stirred political discussions.

The Taxation and Tax Collection Department of PMC has initiated a drive to recover outstanding dues. As part of this effort, the department is taking actions such as playing a band in front of the residences and businesses of defaulters. Nilesh Rane’s multi-purpose commercial complex in Deccan had an outstanding amount of Rs 5.6 crore, with Rs 1.4 crore due for one floor. Despite repeated reminders from the administration to clear the arrears of Rs 3 crore 77 lakh for the remaining two floors, Rane was reportedly reluctant to make the payment, leading to the closure of the hotel in the building.

Many property owners in the city have not paid their property tax, leading to the attachment of related properties by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for tax recovery. Five teams have been assigned to carry out this task, and efforts are being made to collect dues by playing bands within the jurisdiction of each field office. The taxation and collection department of PMC decided to take action against properties with significant tax arrears, including the hotel owned by Nilesh Rane.

As part of this initiative, 16 properties were closed, resulting in the collection of around 8 crores in taxes during the day. The hotel in ‘R-Deccan,’ a multi-purpose commercial complex owned by Nilesh Rane, had an outstanding balance of Rs 3 crore 77 lakh, leading to the sealing of the respective property. Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department, provided this information.
