Rapid Spread Of Corona’s XBB, 10 Patients Reported In Thane

Mumbai, 30th October 2022: The new coronavirus ‘XBB’ found in Singapore and other countries has also been found in the state. So far, 36 new patients have been found in the state, out of which 21 patients are from Pune, 10 patients from Thane, two from Nagpur, and one each from Akola, Amravati, and Raigad. Although no cases of this virus have been detected in Mumbai yet, experts are of the view that Mumbai is now at risk of ‘XBB’ due to its spread.

Among ‘XBB’ patients, most 14 patients are in the age group of 41 to 60 years. Below that, 13 patients aged 21 to 40, 7 patients above 60 years, and two patients aged 11 to 20 were found. Out of the total patients, 22 are male, and 14 are female. Of these 36 patients, 19 had some symptoms, while the rest were asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.

Members of the State Action Force (Task Force) opined that while the new subtype may increase the rate of infection when studying the type ‘XBB’, the outbreak of this new type of virus is mild. Even if it is possible to treat patients in home isolation, the state action force has appealed that health workers and citizens should use masks in places like hospitals and clinics.
