Strict punishment in Mumbai for not wearing masks: People made to sweep streets for violating rules, fine can also be charged

Mumbai, November 2, 2020: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has increased the strictness for those not wearing masks. BMC has said that now if someone is caught without a mask, they may have to sweep the streets and also have to pay a fine of Rs 200. The mask has been made mandatory under the Epidemic Act which has been implemented in Mumbai.

BMC officials made violators sweep the streets in Andheri West, Juhu and Versova areas for one hour. K-West ward assistant corporation commissioner Vishwas Mote said that we got people to sweep under community service for not wearing masks and refusing the officials to pay fines.

GRP has been instructed to impose fines on people who do not wear masks at local trains and stations, even coming to a station or a train without a mask will be punishable. Director of State Disaster Management Abhay Yavalkar has written a letter to GRP Commissioner Ravindra Shengaonkar in this regard. He said that GRP is allowed by the state government to impose fines on those who break the rules. This is necessary to prevent growing COVID-19 infection. It is very important that the passengers follow the protocol.

16 lakh 66 thousand people infected in Maharashtra

5,902 new cases of Coronavirus infection were reported in Maharashtra on Thursday. Now the total number of infected people in Maharashtra has increased to 16 lakh 66 thousand 668. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, 43 thousand 710 people have died in the state. So far, 14 lakh 94 thousand 809 people have been cured of the COVID-19 infection. Right now 1 lakh 27 thousand 603 patients are being treated.

There have been 2 lakh 55 thousand 360 cases of Coronavirus in Mumbai. Here 10 thousand 229 people died due to the infection.
