Mumbai Coastal Road Opens: Second Phase Expected by Mid-March

Mumbai, 13th February 2025: Great news for Mumbai commuters! The long-awaited Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), linking Haji Ali Juice Centre to Marine Drive, is now open to the public. However, the final segment, which connects the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) to Lotus Jetty-Worli Naka, is expected to be operational by mid-March.

The 10.58-km Mumbai Coastal Road extends from the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli end of the BWSL. The project features multi-level interchanges at crucial locations, including Haji Ali, Peddar Road (Amarsons Garden), and Worli Sea Face.

Regarding its key design elements, the Peddar Road interchange has four entry-exit points, while the Haji Ali and Worli interchanges have eight and five, respectively.

Before the road opened to the public, southbound vehicles could access it via the Worli interchange, the Amarsons interchange, or directly from the BWSL.

Officials overseeing the project stated that the final segment at the Worli interchange, facilitating access from Worli to the BWSL for northbound traffic, is nearing completion and is likely to be open by the third week of March.

The delays, they explained, were due to the construction of parking areas for the connecting ramps. The Haji Ali interchange arms were completed and made accessible to traffic in December 2024.

Meanwhile, an additional lane of the bow-string bridge linking Coastal Road to the BWSL was inaugurated on January 27, 2025, significantly cutting down travel time between Bandra and Marine Drive.

Launched in October 2018 with a budget of ₹13,983 crore, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project has reduced travel time by 70% and fuel consumption by 34%, as per BMC estimates.
