Thane ACB Nabs Surveyor for Accepting Rs 75,000 Bribe, Deputy Superintendent Detained

Thane, 6th March 2025: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Thane arrested a surveyor on Wednesday while he was accepting a bribe of ₹75,000. Additionally, a deputy superintendent of land records was detained in connection with the case following complaints received by the ACB.
The arrested officer has been identified as Shrikant Rawate, a surveyor at the Thane land records office, while Changdev Mohalkar, the deputy superintendent of land records, has also been taken into custody.
According to ACB sources, the complainant had approached the department for official work, during which Mohalkar allegedly demanded a bribe. The complainant revealed that he had previously paid ₹1,55,000 to Mohalkar for a land measurement. Dissatisfied with the demand for further payment, he approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint.
During the verification process, Rawate allegedly sought ₹1 lakh from the complainant for the land survey, which was later negotiated down to ₹75,000. Investigations further indicated that Mohalkar had encouraged Rawate to collect the bribe.
Acting on the complaint, ACB officials set up a trap on Wednesday and caught Rawate red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. Mohalkar was subsequently detained for his involvement, and further investigations are ongoing.
A case has been registered at Thane Nagar Police Station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
