Thane: Man and Son Arrested in Kalyan for Allegedly Raping 27-Year-Old Woman
Thane, 10th September 2024: On Sunday, a man and his son were arrested in Kalyan, Thane district, for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman who worked at a brick kiln, according to a police official. The incident occurred on September 6, when the father, son, and a minor entered the woman’s hut and took turns assaulting her, said Murbad Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jagdish Shinde.
The accused are identified as the victim’s father-in-law, aged 50, and her brother-in-law, aged 22. The minor involved has been detained, and the victim’s husband has also been taken into custody. The victim, who suffered severe injuries from the assault and an attack with a sickle, is currently hospitalized at Thane Civil Hospital.
The victim reported that her husband physically assaulted her when she informed him about the attack. A case of gang rape and serious assault has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with Thane Rural SP DS Swamy overseeing the investigation. Additionally, Vivek Pandit, Chairperson of the government-appointed committee on tribal welfare, has visited the victim in the hospital, according to a Kalyan taluka police station official.
