Thane Police File Case Against Three Men for Assaulting Woman During Ganesh Festival

Thane, 11th September 2024: Police have filed a case against three men accused of molesting and assaulting a 21-year-old woman during the Ganesh festival in Thane district, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on Sunday night near a hospital in the Diva area.

According to reports, the men misbehaved with the woman during an idol immersion procession. When she confronted them, they verbally abused her and left the scene. Later, around 1 am on Monday, the same men reportedly attacked her again near her relative’s home in Diva.

During the altercation, the woman’s gold ‘mangalsutra’ (a sacred necklace worn by married women) was also reported missing.

The three men have been charged under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 324 (mischief). The police are actively searching for the suspects.
