Thane Man Arrested for Murdering Acquaintance Who Harassed His Wife

Thane, 14th January 2025: A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Thane district, Maharashtra, for allegedly murdering an acquaintance who had been harassing his wife, according to police reports on Tuesday.
On January 11, Sukant Shatrugana Parida, aged 29, was found dead at the residence of the accused, Naresh Shambu Bhagat, in Badlapur. Bhagat himself reported the death to the police.
The body was sent for post-mortem at a government hospital, and an initial case of accidental death was registered. However, during the investigation, the police followed multiple leads and eventually detained Bhagat for questioning.
Upon interrogation, Bhagat revealed that Parida had repeatedly visited his home, harassing his wife, which resulted in frequent altercations between the two men and the couple. Fed up with the harassment, Bhagat reportedly planned to kill Parida. On the night of January 10, he invited Parida to his house, served him alcohol, and then allegedly struck him on the head with a hammer and an iron rod, leading to Parida’s death.
Bhagat has been arrested and charged with murder under section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
