Thane Prisoner Caught with Smuggled Mobile Hidden in Sandal During Barrack Inspection
Thane, 2nd January 2025: The incident came to light on December 30, 2024, when a jail sepoy conducted an inspection of Barrack No. 3 in the new prison section, which houses around 200 inmates, according to an official from Thane Nagar police station.
During the inspection, the sepoy noticed one sandal belonging to prisoner Hemant Parasmal Sethia (38) on the floor, while the other sandal was missing. After a brief search, the missing sandal was found at a distance within the barrack, but it felt unusually heavy.
Upon further examination, the sepoy discovered a broken mobile phone hidden inside the sandal. The phone showed markings linking it to Sethia, the official added.
A case has been filed against Sethia under applicable legal provisions, and authorities are investigating how he managed to smuggle the phone into the barrack. Sethia has been incarcerated since September 30, 2023, following his arrest in a criminal case registered with the Kashimira police.
