Thane Rural Police Arrest Woman in Connection with Murder of Cab Driver in Bhiwandi

Thane, 31st January 2025: On Wednesday, the Thane rural police arrested a 20-year-old woman in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old app-based cab driver, whose body was discovered in Bhiwandi last week. Authorities are also actively searching for three additional suspects involved in the crime.

The investigation revealed a tale of old grudges, a honey trap, and a planned conspiracy behind the brutal murder.

The victim, Akram Iqbal Qureshi, was found dead near the Tansa-Vaitarna water pipeline in Bhiwandi on January 18. He had been struck with a blunt object, according to police reports.

Police revealed that Qureshi, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had left his home in Jogeshwari the previous day to drive for his cab service. After he failed to return and his phone was found switched off, his family reported him as missing to the Oshiwara police.

Investigations indicated that Qureshi’s alleged killers were distant relatives who harboured a longstanding resentment towards him and his family. The police believe the woman arrested was involved after being recruited by the suspects to lure Qureshi to a secluded location.

According to the police, the woman connected with Qureshi through Instagram and persuaded him to meet her in Bhiwandi. Upon his arrival, the accused ambushed him, murdered him, and abandoned his body in a deserted area.

“We have apprehended the woman, and police teams have been dispatched to Uttar Pradesh to locate the remaining suspects,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rahul Zalte.
