Thane Traffic Police Disable Tyre Killers on Shivaji Path Due to Pedestrian Injuries

Thane, 18th February 2025: The Thane traffic police have disabled the tyre killers on Shivaji Path following reports of pedestrian injuries.

Originally installed to curb wrong-way driving, these devices became a hazard for pedestrians walking along the narrow road near the railway station.

DCP Traffic Pankaj Shirsat explained, “The tyre killers were placed on an experimental basis on Shivaji Path, but they have been deactivated until CCTV cameras are set up. This will help us monitor if pedestrians are unintentionally walking in the wrong direction, and if that’s not the case, we can adjust the spike angle accordingly.”

The move came less than two weeks after the devices were installed, in response to public concerns. While the tyre killers were successful in reducing wrong-way driving, particularly by auto-rickshaws, the police now intend to monitor their effects via CCTV before deciding on any changes.
