Thane: Woman Raped, Assault Filmed & Shared; Three Arrested

Thane, 11th February 2025: In Thane, Maharashtra, a 19-year-old woman has reported being raped by a male acquaintance. According to reports, the assault occurred while two other individuals recorded the act. The footage was then allegedly distributed on social media. Police in Bhiwandi have arrested the 22-year-old male acquaintance for rape, as well as the victim’s girlfriend and another individual for filming the assault. Authorities say the victim was lured to a lodge in the Kamatghar area of Bhiwandi on December 29, 2024, where the rape took place. The police complaint was filed after the video appeared online. The arrested individuals are being held in police custody until February 12.

Separately, in Mumbai, a porter has been arrested following accusations of raping a middle-aged woman on a long-distance train at Bandra Terminus. The woman, who had arrived with her son, boarded an empty train where the alleged assault occurred. She reported the incident to the Bandra GRP, and police used CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the porter. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the woman boarding the empty train. The porter has been charged with rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
