Three Killed, Two Seriously Injured After Car Crashes Into Parked Dumper on Mumbai–Goa Highway in Ratnagiri

Ratnagiri, 15th July 2026 : Three members of a family were killed and two others sustained serious injuries after their SUV rammed into a stationary dumper on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway near Lanja in Ratnagiri district early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred in the early hours near the government rest house at Lanja. A Hyundai Creta travelling from Goa towards Mumbai reportedly crashed into a dumper parked along the roadside with great force.

The victims were residents of Agripada in Mumbai and were returning home after a trip to Goa when the accident took place. The impact of the collision severely damaged the front portion of the vehicle.

Three occupants died on the spot, including two women and a child. Two other family members suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be critical.

Police and emergency response teams reached the scene soon after receiving information about the crash. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, while the damaged vehicle was removed to restore traffic on the highway. Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

Landslide Disrupts Traffic in Kashedi Ghat

In a separate incident, a landslide was reported in the Kashedi Ghat section of the Mumbai–Goa National Highway near Dhamandivi village in Raigad district. The debris disrupted vehicular movement, forcing authorities to divert traffic through a single lane.

Officials said vehicles travelling in both directions are currently being regulated through the Mumbai-bound lane, resulting in slow-moving traffic and long queues. Road clearance operations are underway, and motorists have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through the ghat section.

The twin incidents have once again highlighted concerns over road safety and monsoon-related hazards along the Mumbai–Goa Highway, which witnesses heavy tourist and commercial traffic throughout the year.
