4th Mar 2024: India’s representation at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland saw Jeswin Aldrin and Praveen Chithravel taking on the challenge in their respective events, the men’s long jump and triple jump. However, the Indian contingent endured a tough outing at the prestigious championships.

In the men’s long jump event, Jeswin Aldrin competed in a highly competitive field of 16 athletes. Despite his efforts, Aldrin’s performance fell short of expectations as he finished 13th with a jump of 7.69m. While this result was below his personal best and indoor national record of 7.97m, it highlighted the fierce competition at the championship.

Meanwhile, Praveen Chithravel faced a similar fate in the men’s triple jump competition. Chithravel, holding the national record of 17.37m, could only manage an 11th place finish in a field of 14 athletes. Despite improving his performance gradually throughout the competition, his best jump of 16.45m wasn’t enough to secure a higher placement.

The gold in the men’s long jump event was claimed by Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou, while the men’s triple jump saw Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso emerge victorious. Both events witnessed intense competition among top athletes from around the world.

Although India’s representation at the World Athletics Indoor Championships did not yield a medal this time, the experience gained by Jeswin Aldrin and Praveen Chithravel on the international stage will undoubtedly contribute to their growth and development as athletes. Their participation reflects India’s continued efforts to excel in track and field events on the global platform, setting the stage for future successes in athletics.
