MHADA Lottery: Nearly 1 Lakh Applications for 5,000 Homes – Rush Before Deadline

Mumbai, 19th August 2025: The Konkan Board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is witnessing an overwhelming response to its housing lottery, with nearly 1 lakh online applications submitted for just 5,257 homes in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, and Dombivli. As of now, 98,730 applications have been received, of which 66,086 applicants have completed the deposit payment, making their applications final. With nine days still left for submissions, the competition is set to intensify.
Of the 5,257 homes announced, 4,802 have been reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) with an annual income limit of up to ₹6 lakh, while 455 homes are reserved for the Lower Income Group (LIG), with an annual income cap of ₹9 lakh.
The online application process began on July 14 with an initial deadline of August 13. However, due to delays faced by many applicants in securing income certificates and other mandatory documents, MHADA extended the deadline to August 28. With the current pace of applications, the number is expected to surge well beyond one lakh in the coming days.
Growing Competition with Mumbai
In February 2024, the Konkan Board had conducted a lottery for 5,311 flats in Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts, which attracted around 25,000 applications. By contrast, the Mumbai Board’s lottery held during the same period for 2,030 homes drew as many as 1.15 lakh applications.
This year, given the overwhelming response and extended deadline, the Konkan Board’s housing lottery may rival Mumbai’s in scale and intensity of competition.
