Pune: Mulshi Dam Discharge Increased to 8,100 Cusecs Amid Heavy Rain; Residents Asked to Stay Away from Mula River

Pune, 22nd July 2026: The water discharge from Mulshi Dam into the Mula River will be increased to 8,100 cusecs from 5 pm on Wednesday as continuous heavy rainfall has led to a rise in the reservoir’s water level, Tata Power officials said.

“Mulshi Dam is currently 83.5% full, and heavy rainfall in the catchment area is causing the water level to rise steadily. To maintain the reservoir at a safe operating level, the discharge through the spillway, which was 5,000 cusecs, will be increased to 8,100 cusecs from 5 pm. If rainfall continues or inflows increase further, the discharge may be revised depending on the situation,” said Suresh Kondubhairi of Tata Power’s Mulshi Dam.

He appealed to residents living along the Mula River to exercise caution.

“We request everyone not to enter the riverbed under any circumstances. Livestock, equipment, and any other materials kept in the riverbed should be shifted immediately to safer locations. Citizens residing in low-lying areas are advised to remain alert and follow all safety instructions issued by the authorities,” Kondubhairi added.

Authorities have urged local administrations to inform residents in vulnerable areas and ensure adequate precautionary measures are taken in view of the increased discharge from the dam. If rainfall intensifies over the coming hours, the release of water from the reservoir may be adjusted further based on inflows and operational requirements.
