Navi Mumbai Police Take Action Against Credit Society Employee for Alleged Fund Misappropriation

Navi Mumbai, 7th April 2024: The Navi Mumbai police have taken legal action against an employee of a credit society, alleging misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 4.2 lakh and deceiving an investor. According to an official statement on Sunday, Rameshkumar Patel, aged 32, is suspected of committing the offense over a period spanning from April 2002 to March 2023.

As per the complaint filed by the Taloja-based credit society, Patel is accused of collecting Rs 8,83,675 from customers, but purportedly only depositing Rs 4,61,178 in the office, thereby embezzling Rs 4,22,497.

Additionally, Patel is alleged to have solicited nearly Rs 60,000 from an investor, ostensibly to facilitate the opening of an account with the society and subsequent deposit, but failed to fulfill this commitment, as stated by the official.

On Friday, the Taloja police formally initiated proceedings against Patel, charging him with offenses including cheating and criminal breach of trust under the Indian Penal Code, according to the station house officer.
