Pune Alert: Khadakwasla Dam 93% Full, Water Release Likely in Next Few Hours
Pune, 23rd July 2026: With heavy rainfall continuing in the Khadakwasla dam catchment area, the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division has issued a public alert, warning that water may be released from the dam’s spillway in the next few hours.
According to the Irrigation Department, the Khadakwasla reservoir had reached 93.31% of its storage capacity as of 2 pm on Thursday, July 23. Officials said that continuous rainfall in the catchment and sustained inflow into the reservoir could result in the dam filling further, making spillway releases necessary depending on rainfall and inflow conditions.
Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division said, “The Khadakwasla reservoir is receiving heavy inflows due to intense rainfall in the catchment area. Depending on the rainfall situation and inflow into the reservoir, there is a strong possibility that water will be released through the spillway in the coming hours. We appeal to citizens not to enter the riverbed and to immediately shift any materials or livestock from the river channel. Residents in low-lying areas should remain alert, follow official instructions, and cooperate with the Irrigation Department to ensure public safety.”
The department has advised local authorities to alert residents living in low-lying areas along the river and take all necessary precautionary measures. Citizens have been urged to avoid the riverbed until further notice and strictly follow safety advisories issued by the authorities.
