Pune: Brothers Arrested in Pimpri Chinchwad for Gold Snatching, Stolen Ornaments Recovered

Pimpri Chinchwad, 7th March 2024: Two brothers, Akshay Raju Sherawat (23) and Ajay Raju Sherawat (22), residents of Hingangaon, Haveli, have been apprehended by the police for snatching gold ornaments from women’s necks. The stolen gold ornaments, weighing around 8 Tolas 300 mg (around 97 grams), have been recovered from the accused. Ankush Nanawat (39) of Shirur, is alleged to have purchased the stolen jewellery.

The incident occurred on January 11 around 9:30 PM in Borhadewadi Moshi, where a woman pedestrian had her mangalsutra snatched by two individuals riding a two-wheeler. A case was registered at MIDC Bhosari Police Station. During the investigation, MIDC Bhosari police received information that the two suspects would be attempting to sell the stolen jewellery on Khadi Machine Road.

The successful arrests and recovery of the stolen items were confirmed by Dr Shivaji Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Pimpri Chinchwad Zone 3. The police’s proactive approach in response to the information led to the apprehension of the suspects and the person involved in purchasing the stolen jewellery.

Akshay and Ajay were apprehended by the police through a carefully laid trap. During the interrogation, they confessed to committing three thefts within the jurisdiction of MIDC Bhosari Police Station and one within the limits of Dehu Road Police Station. The police arrested Anil Nanawat after uncovering evidence that he had purchased the stolen jewellery from the brothers.

From the accused, the police seized a total of 4 lakh 15 thousand rupees, which included gold ornaments weighing 8 tolas and 300 grams, as well as a two-wheeler. This operation has brought to light four criminal incidents, three under the jurisdiction of MIDC Bhosari Police Station and one under Dehu Road Police Station. The successful police action has not only led to the recovery of stolen property but has also unveiled the extent of the criminal activities perpetrated by the accused.
