Pune Records Over Threefold Jump in Suspected Dengue Cases in July

Pune, 23rd July 2026: The health department in Pune has recorded a sharp rise in dengue cases this month, with the number of suspected infections more than tripling and confirmed cases nearly doubling compared to June, prompting the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to intensify surveillance in the worst-affected areas.

According to PMC data, the city reported 540 suspected and 22 laboratory-confirmed dengue cases in the first three weeks of July, increased from 175 suspected and 12 confirmed cases recorded in June.

The highest number of cases has been reported from the Warje-Karvenagar ward, followed by Nagar Road-Wadgaonsheri, Kothrud and Aundh-Baner. Civic officials said vector-control measures have been stepped up in these areas to curb the spread.

Private hospitals in the city have also reported an increase in dengue patients, with doctors observing a 25-30% rise in consultations over the past month. While most patients recover with timely treatment, around 15-20% have required hospitalisation, according to clinicians.

Health officials attributed the surge to intermittent rainfall, which creates stagnant water and favourable breeding conditions for Aedes mosquitoes, the primary vector for dengue. They urged residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by preventing water accumulation in and around their homes.
