Pune: Wagholi Residents Warn of Large-scale Protest Over Delayed Development

Pune, 28th February 2024: In a series of movements led by Team WACO (Wagholi Against Corruption) between December 2022 and July 2023, residents of Wagholi passionately advocated for the development of essential amenities such as water supply, DP (bypass) roads, drainage systems, and waste management. Despite promises made during an all-inclusive meeting on July 27, 2023, frustrations are mounting as no tangible progress has been observed on the ground.

During the meeting, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar assured the residents, along with several dignitaries including the Mayor of Pune, that the long-awaited projects would kick off from September. Unfortunately, the reality on the ground tells a different story, with no substantial work initiated, except for concrete work on the Wagholi Bus Stop.

Adding to the discontent, the PMC has raised eyebrows by sending property tax demand notices for previous years to all property owners in Wagholi. This unexpected move has been met with strong opposition from the residents who find it both unreasonable and illegal.

Anil Kumar Mishra, the Founder and president of WACO Welfare Association (Team WACO), expressed his disappointment, stating, “Despite our persistent efforts and movements, there has been a lack of concrete action from the PMC. It is disheartening to see the unjust demand for property tax while the promised developments remain stagnant.”

Wagholi residents are growing increasingly frustrated with the apparent negligence of the PMC in addressing their long-standing concerns. The threat of besieging the PMC office looms large if comprehensive development is not taken seriously and urgently.

As the situation unfolds, Wagholikars eagerly await the fulfillment of the promises made by the authorities and remain determined to fight for their rights and the betterment of their community.
