26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana Grilled for Eight Hours by Mumbai Police Crime Branch

Mumbai, 26th April 2025: Tahawwur Rana, alleged to be a key conspirator behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, faced an extensive eight-hour interrogation by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch. According to senior officials, Rana displayed a lack of cooperation and provided evasive responses during questioning.

Rana, a 64-year-old Pakistani-origin Canadian national and former officer of the Pakistan Army, is presently in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following his extradition from the United States.

The interrogation, conducted on Thursday in Delhi, was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Datta Nalawade. Investigators primarily focused on uncovering Rana’s potential role in planning and facilitating the logistics of the 26/11 attacks.

Throughout the session, Rana categorically denied any involvement, asserting that his business venture, “First World Immigration Services,” was a legitimate operation and not a cover for militant activities.

However, investigators remain skeptical, drawing heavily on the testimony of David Coleman Headley, a co-accused in the case. Headley had previously identified Rana’s involvement in supporting the reconnaissance efforts that preceded the deadly attacks.

The NIA is intensifying its investigation, and officials indicated that a comprehensive chargesheet against Rana is expected to be filed in the near future.
