Mumbai: One Dead, Six Hospitalised After Fire Breaks Out in Andheri Residential Building

Mumbai, 26th April 2025: A devastating fire erupted in a residential building in Andheri (West) early Saturday morning, resulting in one fatality and six hospitalisations, according to Mumbai Fire Brigade officials.
The blaze began at Broke Land Building, located near Ashok Academy Lane, with authorities receiving the first alert at 2:39 AM. By 3:13 AM, it was classified as a Level-I fire. The flames were largely restricted to Room No. 104 on the first floor of the eight-storey structure, damaging electrical wiring, air conditioning units, furniture, mattresses, clothing, documents, and other household belongings.
Firefighters managed to douse the flames completely by 5:30 AM.
Seven residents suffering from smoke inhalation were evacuated by fire personnel and promptly shifted to Kokilaben Hospital, Cooper Hospital, and Trauma Hospital for medical treatment.
Among the victims, 34-year-old Abhina Kartik Sanjanvalia was declared dead upon arrival at Kokilaben Hospital by attending doctors Dr Siddharth and Dr Akasha. Meanwhile, 40-year-old Kartik Sanjanvalia has been admitted to the ICU at Cooper Hospital and remains under close observation.
Other victims undergoing treatment at Kokilaben Hospital include Aparna Gupta (41), Daya Gupta (21), Rihan Gupta (3), and a 10-day-old infant, Pradumna, all of whom are receiving intensive care under Dr Siddharth’s supervision.
Additionally, 40-year-old Polam Gupta, who also suffered smoke exposure, was treated in the casualty ward of Trauma Hospital and discharged after receiving preliminary medical care from Dr Moin.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
