6 Mumbai Division Employees Receive Central Railway Safety Awards for Vigilant Duty

Mumbai, 17th June 2025: Six employees from the Mumbai Division of Central Railway were felicitated with Safety Awards for their vigilance and prompt action that helped prevent potential rail accidents. The awards were conferred during a ceremony held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.

The awards, presented by Central Railway General Manager Dharam Veer Meena, included a medal, commendation certificate, citation, and a cash prize of ₹2,000.

Awardees:

Vicky Kumar, Senior Train Manager, Panvel, was on duty on 13 May 2025 on Train No. 61021 Vasai–Diva MEMU. Near the Kharbao–Bhiwandi Road section, he heard an unusual sound and observed dust from a passing goods train. He immediately signaled danger to the train’s crew, prompting them to stop. Upon inspection, a case of derailment was confirmed.

Changdev S Dunge, Master Craftsman, Kurla Carshed, identified a broken and dangling pan on the pantograph of Vashi local unit no. 2143 on 1 May 2025. He promptly isolated the coach, preventing any operational risk.

Mittal Narendra Gadling, Assistant Loco Pilot, Kurla, while taking charge of a shunting engine at Dadar Yard on 8 March 2025, noticed a 10-meter-long dangling catenary wire on the contact wire. She immediately informed the crew control, averting a potentially hazardous situation.

Sandeep Nana Bhalshankar, Master Craftsman (C&W), Igatpuri, during brake power testing of a PNCS/BCN goods train on 18 April 2025, discovered a dislocated centre pivot on one of the wagons. His observation prevented further movement of a faulty wagon.

Nilesh Shinde, Junior Engineer (C&W), Kalamboli, on 8 May 2025, found that a wheel on a goods train axle had a 22 mm difference and a flange of 775 mm, both below safety standards. The issue was reported and the wagon was isolated.

Chandan Kumar, Track Maintainer, Vidyavihar, detected a crack on the diamond crossing at km 18/00 between Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar on 9 May 2025. He took immediate safety precautions and alerted the concerned departments.

These employees were recognized for their proactive approach in identifying faults and ensuring corrective actions during their regular duties. Senior railway officials including Additional General Manager Prateek Goswami and Principal Chief Safety Officer Chandra Kishore Prasad were present at the event.
