Navi Mumbai: Multiple Injuries in Raigad ST Bus Collision: 10 Seriously Hurt, Driver Speeding Reported

Navi Mumbai, 8th July 2024: Thirty-two individuals sustained injuries when two ST buses collided head-on early Sunday morning near Akshi Beach on the Alibaug-Revdanda highway stretch in Raigad. Ten of the injured were seriously hurt and have been admitted to the civil hospital in Alibaug.

The accident occurred at a sharp turn on the road, where a bus travelling from Murud to Bhandup collided with another heading from Alibaug to Revdanda (towards Murud’s direction). Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash as the driver of the Bhandup-bound ST bus, Alimbhai Karim Sayyad (33), was speeding on the turn immediately after crossing Akshi Bridge, leading to the collision with the Revdanda bus.

The driver of the Revdanda ST bus, Nagnath Ghure (37), suffered head injuries and a fracture. Among the injured, 22 were women and 10 were men, including a 17-year-old girl. Traffic was halted for an hour until a towing van arrived to clear the scene.

Dr Ambadas Devmane, the district civil surgeon, mentioned, “Most of the injured sustained injuries to their face, forehead, and nose, likely due to the impact of the collision where they hit the seats in front of them. Fortunately, all the injured individuals are now stable and out of danger.”
