Navi Mumbai Boy Commits Suicide After Father Refuses To Buy iPhone

Pune, 11th July 2024: In a shocking incident in Navi Mumbai, an 18-year-old boy committed suicide after his father refused to buy him an iPhone. The boy, a school dropout with a history of drug addiction, was found hanging at his home in Kamothe after his father bought him a less expensive Vivo phone instead of the iPhone he had demanded. Four people, including the bride, have been arrested, and a case has been filed at the Alandi Police Station under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC).
According to Kamothe’s Senior Inspector Ajay Kamble, the teenager, originally from Navi Mumbai, had become distressed after receiving the Vivo phone instead of the iPhone. The boy’s father, who owns a cement business, explained that he had purchased the Vivo phone due to the high cost of the iPhone. The father’s refusal to buy the iPhone led to the boy’s decision to take his own life.
Inspector Kamble revealed that the teenager had been influenced by his friends and had developed a drug addiction. “The boy was a school dropout and had fallen into bad company, leading to his drug addiction,” Kamble said. The teenager’s demand for the latest iPhone was seen as a way to keep up with his peers.
The incident came to light after the father found his son hanging at their home. The police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter further. This tragic event highlights the immense pressure and influence that material possessions, such as smartphones, can have on today’s youth.
The police have urged parents to be more aware of their children’s emotional and psychological well-being and to seek help if they notice any signs of distress or unusual behavior. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting discussions on the impact of societal pressures on young individuals.
