Attempt Made To Defraud 25-Year-Old By Defaming Him Through Loan App

Mumbai, 7th February 2023: An attempt was made to defraud a 25-year-old youth by defaming him through a loan app in the Malad area. In this regard, the Kurar police have registered a case against the four under the defamation and information technology prevention act.

The complainant Tarun lives with his family in the Malad area. A few days ago, he downloaded a loan app on his mobile and uploaded his photograph along with his Aadhaar card, PAN card, and bank account information for verification. After that, he applied for a loan of Rs 15,000. On 29th January, about nine thousand rupees were deposited in his bank account. Then on Friday, 3rd February, he was immediately asked to deposit seven thousand rupees. He said that he will deposit the money by 15th February. At this time, he was receiving threats from four different mobile phones to deposit money. He was threatened to publish his obscene pictures on social media if he did not collect the money.

After this threat, he was sent an indecent photo of himself morphed by an unknown person. A message was also sent that they would defame him by sending that picture to others along with his family. The next day, the man defamed him by sending the same picture to his girlfriend and relatives. As soon as this incident came to light, the complainant rushed to the Kurar police. The incident was reported to the police, and a complaint was filed against all four persons concerned. After investigating the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 420, 500, 504, 506, 66D, and 67 of the Prevention of Information Technology Act, along with Sections 420, 500, 504, and 506.
