‘BEST’ Initiative Prohibits Talking Loudly And Listening To Music On Mobiles In Mumbai Buses

Mumbai, 28th April 2023: The Mumbai civic transport body, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), has banned passengers from talking loudly on their mobile phones, listening to music, or watching videos without headphones while travelling in their buses.

The new rule aims to ensure a comfortable and peaceful ride for all passengers. The move comes after the BEST administration received numerous complaints from passengers about fellow travellers disturbing the peace with loud conversations, music and videos.

As per the order, drivers, conductors, and ticket inspectors have been instructed to warn passengers about the use of mobile loudspeakers. If the concerned passenger continues to disturb others, a complaint will be filed with the police. BEST has also appealed to passengers to use earphones while talking and listening to songs, to avoid disturbing fellow passengers.

This move has been welcomed by many commuters, who have been suffering due to the loud noise levels on buses. It is expected to make travelling in BEST buses a more peaceful and comfortable experience. The ban on loud mobile phone conversations and music has also been implemented in Mumbai’s suburban trains, with fines of up to Rs 1,000 for violators.

According to BEST officials, the new rule is part of the transport body’s efforts to provide a better travel experience for passengers. The move is expected to lead to more responsible behaviour from commuters and ensure a peaceful commute for everyone. In addition, it will also help to reduce the noise pollution levels on the roads, which is a major issue in Mumbai.
