Ghodbunder Road Congestion Prompts Collaborative Efforts by Residents and Officials in Thane

Thane, 9th April 2024: Residents and officials in Thane are collaborating to address the persistent congestion along Ghodbunder Road, proposing solutions to alleviate traffic jams, especially during peak hours. Concerns have been raised regarding the increased traffic volume between Majiwada and Kapurbawdi junctions, exacerbated by ongoing metro construction work that has reduced the lanes available for Ghodbunder-bound traffic from four to two along a 200-meter stretch.

This bottleneck has resulted in significant delays, with motorists reporting wait times of 20-30 minutes to traverse the area. To address this issue, residents are advocating for the diversion of heavy vehicles, particularly transport buses, as a short-term measure. The convergence of vehicles from various parts of the city, including Pokhran 2, Nashik Highway, Uthalsar, and Nitin Company, further compound the congestion at this critical junction.

Proposed solutions include diverting transport buses during evening peak hours, with routes suggested via flyovers and alternative roads to alleviate pressure on the narrow stretch. Suggestions also include engaging with transport agencies such as TMT to explore options for rerouting buses away from the congested area.

Dr Vinay Rathod, Deputy Police Commissioner of Traffic in Thane, confirmed that efforts are underway to address the traffic situation. Meetings are being held with transport agencies to explore possible diversions for buses, aiming to ease congestion and improve traffic flow along Ghodbunder Road.
