India’s “The Elephant Whisperers” Creates History, Wins Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film
New Delhi, 13th March 2023: At the 95th Academy Awards, Guneet Monga’s “The Elephant Whisperers” received an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film.
Kartiki Gonsalves directed and Guneet Monga produced ‘The Elephant Whisperers’.
The Elephant Whisperers was a directorial debut for Kartiki.
The movie competed against, “Haulout,” “How Do You Measure a Year?” “The Martha Mitchell Effect,” “Stranger At The Gate,” etc.
India’s first Oscar victory this year came from ‘The Elephant Whisperers’.
Guneet Monga tweeted, “We just win the first-ever Oscar for an Indian Production! Two women did this! I am still shivering.”
The Elephant Whisperers is the touching tale of Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant, and his indigenous guardians Bomman and Belli, set in Mudumalai National Park.
The documentary emphasizes the relationship between humans and animals while also showcasing the diverse flora and fauna of the nation.
In December 2022, “The Elephant Whisperers” became available on Netflix.
